Worried about AI taking your marketing job? Use it to get a raise instead.

No-one was ever let go for adding colossal value.

You are likely doing exactly that if you’re using AI tools.

Which puts you in a strong position to negotiate a raise.

But how do you make the extra value you add with AI visible to your boss?

Show your worth

Simply telling your boss that AI has made you better/faster/smarter is unlikely to be rewarded with more than a “Well done!”

Fair enough. Why should your boss be expected to do anything different?

The value AI tools add to your workflow performance is not always easy to see.

If you use more than a few of the AI tools preferred by marketers, things get cloudier still.

Some tools add more value. Some add less. And the value others bring to the table is hard to measure.

So, how do you make it easy for your boss to see the value you do add more clearly?

Simple.

Break it down by the outputs you deliver or contribute to – and make it visual.

See the simple graphic of my own AI transformation “from Simon to SiBorg” below, by way of example.

Using a “before and after” approach benchmarks the value “new me” adds against the value “old me” delivered waayyyyy back in 2022.

It’s not a perfect representation but it gets the idea across – and seeing is believing.

I did the graphic in Canva but a spreadsheet would also work. Not as much fun as Canva though ; )

Grow your worth

Once you’ve made the value you add clearly visible, it’s off to the races.

Even if you only claim a 2x improvement overall, that’s 100% better. Not bad.

It should be enough to get you a 25% raise, surely?

Or to find a new job that offers considerably more.

Up your worth to the max

You could add massive additional value by suggesting:

1. The creation of an AI prompt library for marketing as explained here.

2. Using AI to improve your brand strategy, sales and content messaging as explained here.

Quantify the value one or both these approaches add to your marketing team or brand once implemented, say, over a year …

And then it’s time to renegotiate your remuneration at a much higher level.
